Top Ten Best Cars – Great recession changed the American car market – the average car on the road is now 11 and a half years old, compared with just ten years in 2007, according to IHS Automotive and the US Department of Transport.
People now tend to buy older cars and stick around for them longer, much to the dismay of the car manufacturers. And although the economy is now slowly picking up again, car companies now have to think of new threats.
Some believe that the future of the car can not only be without the driver, but also without the owner. President Lyft and co-founder John Zimmer had predicted that private ownership of the car would be a thing of the past, at least in America, by 2025.
But if your car pushes a twelve-year mark, or you will not trust a car without a driver as far as you can throw it, you may need some advice on which car will replace your old car.
That’s where automotive magazines, Cars and Drivers come in. They have chosen the top ten best cars of 2018, cross-referencing the Buyers Guide notes and their test shows, and how cool they think the car is.
They have also selected a number of other eligible cars in each category. In this slide show we start with ten winners and then move on to the best cars in each class, from sensible family runaround to pumped muscle cars, and from $ 13,000 hatchback to a $ 300,000 supercar.
