The best new car for 2018

Alfa Romeo series 5 rivals

Price: Begin £ 35,000
Sale: End of 2018

Giulia proves that Alfa can seriously challenge market leaders like the BMW 3 Series, and the brand is now trying to repeat it with competitors for the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. Alfa has remained silent about an unnamed sedan, but our exclusive image shows how we thought it would look. We expect it to share Giulia style, using the same platform and engine range.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

Price: Starting £ 65,000 (est)
On Sale: Summer

Alfa’s Giulia Quadrifoglio proves that the company can create exceptional high-performance cars, and Stelvio Quadrifoglio looks like any other hit.

It gets the same bi-turbo V6 503bhp and eight-speed automatic as the main saloon, and it’s all a little effective here. Stelvio is a very fast and safe performance SUV – and a decent competitor for the Porsche Macan Turbo.

Alpine A110

Price: From £ 51,000 (est)
On Sale: Now

You will not find a better awakening than the A110. This Porsche Cayman rival looks like the name of the sixties, but this is really a 21st century sports car, with a rear-drive aluminum chassis and incredible agility. The order book is already open, and the first owner will take delivery in June. The cars will be a complete Premiere Edition model – which will cost around £ 51,000 – but the range will expand in the future. It will certainly include some cheaper versions, plus a lighter and more powerful Sport.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

Price: £ 220,000
On Sale: Summer

The image above shows the new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera – a replacement for Vanquish. It shares most of its profile with DB11, but with 715bhp and 900Nm of torque pumped out of its twin 5.2-liter V12 turbo expects DBS to be a different type of beast for its stablemate. Praised by Aston as a little “rough” DBS will be able to reach 100mph in just 6.4 seconds – but is expected to cost £ 225,000 when it goes on sale later this year.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Price: Starting from £ 120,900
On Sale: Now

Aston Martin is back in black and moving well, with a profit of £ 87million recorded in 2017. The new V8 Vantage is now ready to provide a significant sales boost to the company.

This latest car has a basic architecture of aluminum with a larger DB11, as well as rear-wheel-drive layout and AMG sourced 4.0 twin-turbo V8. In this Vantage produce 503bhp and 685Nm of torque to give a 0-62mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 195mph.

With a 50:50 weight distribution, E-Diff electronic rear differential and adaptive dampers, Vantage promises to offer handling that matches its high performance.

Audi A1

Price: From £ 15,000 (est)
Spring sale

Audi is preparing to move its smallest car to the same A0 version of the MQB platform as the new SEAT Ibiza and Volkswagen Polo.

As a result, the new A1, previewed in our exclusive image, is expected to be more spacious than it is today thanks to the longer-90mm wheelbase. The engine line-up tends to resemble Polo, and includes a 1.0 liter 1.0 liter turbo gasoline with various outputs. Audi can launch BMW e-tron hybrid BMW i3-riving, too.

Audi A6

Price: Starting £ 35,000 (est)
Sale: June

Audi A6

Price: Starting £ 35,000 (est)
Sale: June

Audi does not have anything for the new A6, which moves the game from the current car in every area. It’s bigger, for starters, and with an additional 12mm in the wheelbase, there’s more legroom without sacrificing any of the 530 liters of old model boot space.

The A6 also benefits from aluminum panels to counteract the weight gain generated by light-hybrid powertrains across the range. Borrowing technology from the larger A8 means the buyer can determine the air suspension for the most smooth ride as well.

Audi e-tron

Price: From £ 60,000 (est)
On Sale: Summer

We have not seen the first pure EV production version of Audi, but the company did carry a disguised e-tron prototype to the recent Geneva show, no doubt to steal some of the Jaguar I-Pace thunder. E-tron will be the first of a pair of all-electric crossovers built on the VW Group’s MLB platform.

We expect it to offer a range of about 310 miles from a single charge – although it is still feasible that Audi can offer it with more than one battery capacity.

Audi Q3

Price: From £ 27,000 (est)
Sale: Autumn

It is not surprising that Audi is busy putting the finishing touches on its new Q3, because the current version is now the oldest model in its ranks. The new Q3 will be slightly larger on the outside, and with a longer wheelbase, it should offer more interior space as a brawl for sales against BMW X1 and Volvo XC40.

To that end, Auto Express understands that Audi is also working on an all-electric Q3 version for sale alongside petrol and diesel models, and plug-in hybrid e-tron. Despite major changes under bodywork, our exclusive image shows that the style of Q3 will be an evolutionary affair.

Audi Q8

Price: £ 65,000 (est)
Sale: End of 2018

As part of the rapid expansion of various SUVs, Audi will introduce a new flagship Q8. It will be the largest Q car brand, and is meant to be a fabulous 4×4 luxury to rival those like the Range Rover.

Below, this is based on Q7, but Q8 will have a more distinctive look, like a coupé; judging by the latest spy shots, it looks very similar to the Q8 concept of the Detroit 2017 show. We also expect the car to be available with an electro-electric hybrid plug-in transmission from the E-tron concept.

Audi SQ2

Price: Starting £ 33,000 (est)
Sale: Mid 2018

We’ve been seeing spy shots for a while, but we hope Audi will finally introduce hot Q2 later this year. Recent photos reveal a quad exhaust tell-tale and an enlarged air intake, as well as large brake discs.

SQ2 will likely use a four-cylinder turbo version of the S3, and we expect it will offer around 250bhp, using all-wheel drive and more sporty chassis features. That would leave the possibility of Audi introducing a faster RS Q2 model again, using the same engine as RS 3.

Bentley Bentayga PHEV

Price: From £ 150,000 (est)
Sale: Autumn

Bentley hybrid SUV is said to be the first step for full electrification. It has a 3.0 liter turbo gasoline V6, electric motor and generator, and claims 75g / km CO2 emissions and an EV range of 31 miles.

In addition to the charger socket, it looks just like the Bentayga, but the various functions – such as instruments, sat-nav and smart phone applications – have been customized to fit hybrid mode.

Bentley Continental GT

Price: Starting £ 159,100
On Sale: Now

Bentley’s Continental GT always gets help from VW Group, but this car is based on the latest Porsche Panamera – and it shows. The extent of his ability will draw your breath.

At a quieter pace, it’s more comfortable than ever, though on track in Sport mode, Conti is perfectly capable. And the cabin is very smooth and classy, and packed with kit.
