Best Car Speaker Brand – The luxury brand of Hyundai Genesis has formed a milestone with the G80 and G90 sedans, but with the 2019 G70, it pushes further into enemy territory. The G70 is a smaller sportier sedan aimed directly at BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class – three German models that come to define a modern small luxury car. The G70’s competitor list also includes Alfa Romeo Giulia, Infiniti Q50, Jaguar XE, and Lexus IS.
Genesis is not yet ready to discuss prices but says that the G70 will start in the mid $ 30,000 range when crashing into showrooms, while a loaded model will cost around $ 50,000. G70 will be offered in Advanced (base), Elite, and Prestige levels. Even the Advanced Base model is pretty well equipped with standard features like leather upholstery, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Lexicon 15-speaker audio system.
The G70 also offers features that will make car fans smile: manual transmissions. The stick shift is only available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder base (optional 3.3 liter V6 only automatic), but this is good news that is welcomed as competitors pull back their manual transmission offerings. Four cylinders are also available with the same eight-speed automatic as the V6, and both powertrains can be paired with rear or all-wheel drive.
INTERIOR AND TECH
The G70 immediately impresses with its interior quality. This is a snippet above most other cars in this segment, many of which seem to suffer cost cutting in this area. The quality materials are just right for luxury cars, and the overall cabin design is simple and free of clutter. It was also easy to maneuver the seats into a comfortable driving position. Events make the seat duty point low, but outward sight is undisturbed because of the relatively thin front pillar and the lowered exterior mirror.
The G70 offers an interior space comparable to a German trio that is primarily intended for it. The rear seats are quite narrow, which is typical for cars in this segment. Series 3, A4, and C-Class sedans offer more luggage space than the G70.
Genesis provides an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment. Genesis Connected Services (three years free) adds smartphone and smartwatch applications that allow drivers to lock or unlock doors and perform other functions remotely, as well as connectivity Amazon Alexa and Google Home. The G70 has three USB ports: one in front of the shifter, one in the console console storage center, and one behind, along with optional wireless phone charging. The prestige model gets a head-up view.
The touch screen uses in-cell technology, which means it can be used when wearing gloves, according to Genesis. It was not something we had to test during our July riders in Maine and New Hampshire, but we found the screen quite responsive, with intuitive menus. We also appreciate the inclusion of buttons and analog buttons for climate control, audio volume, and screen-menu shortcuts.
The sound quality of the Lexicon 15-speaker audio system is crisp and clear, with a pair of subwoofers under the seat that provides some additional ductility. The system features Lexicon’s Clari-Fi technology from its parent, which recovers compressed digital audio files, as well as Quantum Logic surround sound.
Standard driver assistance includes lane-keep help, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, cross-rear alert, autonomous emergency braking, high-light assistance, and monitor-driver attention, using input-frequency controls to determine if drivers are paying attention. The surround-view camera system and parking sensor are available at higher trim levels.
For brands that do not have any performance inheritance, Genesis does an admirable job with the G70. Every car maker tries to describe his small luxury sedan as a driver’s car but the G70 is the real deal.
The basic 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 252 horsepower (255 hp with manual transmission) and 260 pound-feet of torque, which is more than you get in the BMW 330i, but less torque than the Audi A4 2.0T or a Mercedes- Benz C300. The optional twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 produces 365 hp and 376 lb-ft, beating the German competition, not including BMW M and Mercedes-AMG performance variants.
V6 is the same engine used in Genesis G80 Sport and Kia Stinger, but this is probably the best application. The G70 is lighter than other cars, and the chassis is well equipped to handle the power of the engine. The basic four-cylinder engine is less attractive, providing only adequate thrust. But the engine was available with a manual transmission and, because the four banger weighs less than the V6, the front end feels more responsive around the bend. So while the V6 is more thrilling in a straight line, four cylinders offer a more rewarding overall driving experience.
We drive the G70 on New England’s backroads and on the track at Motorsports Club of New Hampshire, with good car performance in both neighborhoods. The steering wheel is very communicative for modern electronic help systems. The car has a lot of clutches and, for the most part, behaves as can be expected when the grip is exhausted. The only exception is the behavior of an optional all-wheel drive system, which may be too clever for its own good.
The all-wheel drive system can transfer up to 90 percent of its power to the rear wheels when stability control and traction control are involved, or 100 percent when those features are turned off (unlike some other cars, dying really means dying in the G70). But on the track, we can hardly predict what the car will do in certain situations. This will let the slide back-end in several corners while allowing understeer to weaken on others. Indeed, the G70 drivers probably will not track their cars, and the all-wheel drive system is much better behaving at healthier speeds.
Road damage in Maine and New Hampshire spawns a slight driving quality on the rigid side but that is not surprising given the sporty suspension settings of the G70. Switching between the Comfort and Sport drive modes does not make much difference, apart from the automatic transmission that holds each gear longer in Sport mode. Eco Mode puts the car on a rope above the name of the fuel economy, Smart mode selects settings based on driver behavior, and Custom allows the driver to choose their own settings.
Rear-wheel drive, the G70’s automatic version also features launch controls, something typically found on supercars or more hardcore sports sedans. Features only work in Sport mode with stability control and traction disabled. The driver just presses the brake and gas pedals simultaneously, waiting for the revs to build, and releases the brakes. We did not have a chance to test this feature, but Genesis claims this allows the G6 V6 to zero up to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
EPA’s fuel economy rating for rear-wheel drive, four-cylinder G70 is 22 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway) with six-speed manual transmission, and 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with eight-speed automatic. The V6 model of the rear-wheel drive (which is only automatic) has a rating of 21 mpg (18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway). The all-wheel drive version of the four-cylinder and V6 models has a rating of 23 mpg (21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway) and 20 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway), respectively. Manual not available with all wheel drive.

Genesis offers a 5-year / 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The G70 also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles with free valet and car borrower services. Roadside assistance is included for three years, with unlimited mileage.

The G70 asks buyers to choose between the interactivity of a 2.0-liter turbo manual and the raw power of a 3.3-liter twin-turbo automatic. It’s a tough call, but we prefer an experience that involves more than a car with a manual transmission.
